Life question:  Do you really need a 1965 Gibson SG?  Oh yes you do.  Especially one like this.  What we have here is a super clean, almost entirely original (everything except for a few screws & springs), smooth playing and amazing sounding SG, from the great year of 1965.

History lesson:  Originally released in 1961, the SG Standard was positioned above the SG Special but below the SG Custom in Gibson's lineup. It has remained one of the most enduring versions of the SG model, with a brief replacement by the SG Deluxe in the early 1970s. First introduced in late 1960, the Standard quickly became a prominent feature of the new range. Its design included a rosewood fingerboard with crown-shaped inlays on a mahogany neck, a thistle headstock inlay, a 22nd fret neck-body joint, and a beveled-edge double-cutaway mahogany body finished in Cherry. Equipped with two humbuckers, the Standard also featured a standard four-control layout and an "angel-wing" pickguard beneath the pickups, making it a quintessential setup. Initially, the Standard came with a sideways Vibrola tremolo, followed by a short Vibrola with an ebony block behind the tailpiece, and finally a lyre-logo

Originally known as the Les Paul Standard with that label on both the headstock and truss-rod cover (later referred to as SG/Les Pauls), but officially renamed the SG Standard in 1963. This specific model is from 1965.

This SG Standard is as clean as a whistle, has the original case, original frets (our expert luthier gave it a light fret dress so you can imagine how it plays!) and original finish.  Everything is original with the exception of the Trem Spring (our expert made a new one) and the Trem Screw (period correct).  Although the serial number denotes 1967, the Pots all date to 1965 making it too legit to quit!

As an added bonus, the guitar comes with the original hangtag and paperwork.  Preserved carefully over the last 6+ decades, we were thrilled to find that in the case.  It helps to make this the complete package.

Not only is this SG clean enough to eat dinner off of, the action is low, and the guitar plays fast.....and it doesn't fight back!  And with our expert Truetone setup this guitar stays in tune as you’d expect.  It's a truly classic guitar.  Like Lenny Kravitz, Sandra Bullock, Rob Lowe and Matt Dillion, this guitar turns 60 next year.  How’d you like to be right there to wish it Happy Birthday, plugged into your favorite amplifier?
