Pre Owned 1976 Gibson Les Paul Pro Deluxe Black With OHSC
If you want a vintage Les Paul that is more of a rare find, here is this Gibson Les Paul Pro Deluxe in Ebony. Not only that, but it's a great guitar with a great story - and here it is:
This instrument was originally owned by Glen Laughlin of the LA punk band, The Dickies. It was sold to LA recording pro and mixing engineer, Pete Magdaleno, back in 1989. From there, the story gets more interesting....
Pete has owned it ever since but is now ready to part with his baby of 35 years. Known for bringing his Pro Deluxe to a variety of sessions, he’s had everyone from Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick to John Doe and Richard Lloyd strap it on and give it a spin. Pete was an engineer on both KISS Alive III and KISS’ Revenge and recalls the guys playing his Les Paul Pro Deluxe. Although we don't lay claim to this guitar having appearances on the records, it was certainly played in the studio. Also, when Pete was working on John Doe’s debut solo album, Meet John Doe, both John and Television’s Richard Lloyd were keen to mess about with Pete’s guitar.
Now, there is a small controversy surrounding the Gibson Les Paul Pro Deluxe. Original Gibson literature (and the almighty Vintage Pricing Guide) has the production beginning in 1978 and ending in 1982. However, there are quite a few models out there that date to 1976 and 1977. How is that? Good question!
According to the author of the definitive “The Les Paul Guitar Book: A Complete History of the Les Paul”, by the esteemed Tony Bacon, 1976 was the start of production year for the Les Paul Pro Deluxe. In 1977, Gibson took out ads in guitar trade publications making a big deal of the Pro Deluxe being made available in April that year to only the UK and other European markets before releasing it in the U.S. in 1978. This was the first time Gibson released a Les Paul in a market other than the US before making it available here at home.
With chrome plated hardware, “Pro” engraved on the truss rod, 2 P90 pickups, a maple (not mahogany) neck with an ebony (not rosewood) fingerboard, the Les Paul Pro Deluxe remains one of the most sought after Gibsons to this day. You get a single-cut three-piece mahogany body with a maple top with a beautiful gloss ebony finish. It's a stunning piece of simplicity in terms of looks, function and use. The neck is super comfortable, the guitar is easy to play, and of course, sounds amazing.
This Les Paul is in great condition, especially considering its age. Everything is original, and it comes with its original hardshell case. The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop, and is ready to go!
