Gibson Custom Shop 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue Stop-Bar VOS Cherry Red
The Red Devil
Gibson Custom Shop is the pinnacle of craftsmanship, quality, and sound excellence. Each instrument celebrates Gibson's legacy through accuracy, authenticity and attention to detail.
A coveted choice among legendary guitarists like Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Robby Krieger, George Harrison, and Santana , the early 1960's SG model stands as a testament to its enduring appeal. While there have many many iterations, the original version from the debut year of 1961 is the way to go for many.
The sophisticated design, powerful humbucker sound, and agile neck of the SG contribute to its esteemed reputation as one of Gibson's most sought-after 1960s models. This Custom Shop 1961 Les Paul SG Standard replicates the iconic features of the originals, including solid wood construction, ancient hide-glue techniques, and top-quality vintage components. The iconic presence of this instrument is unmistakable.
The original sound is a key element here. The guitar was designed to provide spot-on 1961 SG tone, via a pair of Gibson's Custombucker Alnico III (unpotted) humbuckers. The Custombucker is the most historically accurate PAF recreation, and there's a good reason why players have been demanding these in the Custom Shop guitars for years.
It's also all about the feel - after all, comfort and playability were focuses when Gibson was designing this guitar decades ago, and to this day, that's largely why the SG is so popular. It has a SlimTaper neck carve that sits comfortably in your hand, and provides excellent dexterity as you move up and down the neck. The rosewood fretboard is super smooth, bound nicely, and has been Plek'd for ultimate playability.
This being a Historic Reissue model, it has the Custom Shop's VOS (Vintage Original Sheen) finish. This is what gives the guitar a vintage patina, with the nitrocellulose lacquer buffed to a slightly matte-like finish, so you get the look and feel of a guitar that's already lived for decades. Also, the hardware is lightly aged, so they're not too shiny, matching the guitar perfectly.
Other features include an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge and aluminum Stopbar tailpiece, Kluson single-line/double-ring tuners, a lightweight mahogany body and neck, and the classic electronics setup (2 volume and 2 tone controls, plus a 3-way selector switch).
The guitar comes with a high quality Gibson case, period correct hang tags, and a Certificate of Authencity.
